The contest will be held in honour of the 85th birth anniversary of Elena Obraztsova, a People’s Artist of the USSR, and the 25th foundation anniversary of the Competition.

St. Petersburg State Academic Capella The participation in the Competition is open to Russian and foreign performers aged from 18 to 32 years inclusive as of the Competition’s opening day, 21 July 2024

To take part in the selection process, you need to fill in an application with an attached link to a video recording. In addition to personal data, the application must contain information about the full competition programme. Applications for participation in the selection shall be accepted from 15 December 2023 to 31 March 2024


Requirements for the video recording:
The video recording of two arias by a Russian composer and a foreign composer of the 18 th-20thcenturies needs to be put in one file via a private link on YouTube.
The video must show the contestant (full-height), piano, and accompanist. All works must be performed in their original language, in the original key, by heart. Only live piano accompaniment is allowed.
The video must have a high quality resolution. Video editing is not permitted. The sound must be recorded via a built-in camera (smartphone) microphone without the use of any sound recording equipment; any sound editing is prohibited. Only videos made during the last year (2023-2024) shall be accepted for consideration.

Program of the Competition

  • 1st Round (up to 10 minutes long) with piano accompaniment:
    • An aria from an opera, cantata or oratorio written by a composer of the 17th-18th centuries
    • An aria from an opera written by a composer of the 19th century
  • 2nd Round (up to 15 minutes long) with piano accompaniment:
    • A chamber vocal composition written by a Russian composer of the 19th-20th centuries (Glinka, Dargomyzhsky, Mussorgsky, Rimsky-Korsakov, Tchaikovsky, Lyapunov, Taneev, Rachmaninov, Tcherepnin, Medtner, Prokofiev, Grechaninov, Shostakovich, Sviridov, Gavrilin, Slonimsky)
    • A chamber vocal composition written by a West European composer of the 19th-20th centuries (Schubert, Schumann, Brahms, Wagner, R. Strauss, Mahler, Wolf, Liszt, Dvorak, Grieg, Berlioz, Bizet, Massenet, Delibes, Saint-Saёns, Faure, Debussy, Chausson, Poulenc, Granados, De Falla, Tosti, Ravel, Hahn, Obradors, Sibelius)
    • An aria from an opera written by an Italian composer of the 18th-19th centuries
  • 3rd Round (with orchestral accompaniment)
    • Two arias from an opera written by a composer of the 19th-20th centuries, one of which is an aria by a Russian composer (four arias should be stated in an application; the Jury will specify which ones to be performed by the finalist in the 3rd Round)
      Each aria can be performed just in one round.
