Born in Tuscania, he made his debut at the Spoleto Teatro Sperimentale. As soon as he
had been engaged by the La Fenice Theatre, he performed on all the great stages in Italy
and the world: the Arena di Verona, Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, La Scala and the tours
to Washington, New York, Tokyo, London, Berlin, Prague and Vancouver, Berlin, Munich,
Vienna, Salzburg, Chicago, San Francisco, Opera de Paris and the Metropolitan with the
most renowned conductors such as Riccardo Muti, Claudio Abbado, Gianandrea Gavazzeni,
Vittorio Gui, Erich Kleiber, Carlo Maria Giulini, Sir Georg Solti, Thomas Schippers,
Zubin Metha, Seiji Ozawa, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Lorin Maazel.
His repertoire is very wide and ranges from 18th century works to works by Spontini,
Cherubini, Rossini, Donizetti, Bellini, Puccini, the most favored Verdi, Bizet, Gounod, Berlioz,
Meyerbeer and many others. He has given concerts extensively all over the world, singing in
New York's Carnegie Hall, London's Royal Festival Hall, Amsterdam's Concertgebow,
Vienna's Musikverein Saal, Rome's Santa Cecilia and in other prestigious concert halls in
Berlin, Philadelphia, Tel Aviv, Paris, Tokyo etc. He has wide experience of broadcasting on
radio and television nationally and internationally, including video recordings of Verdi's Attila
and Les Vepres Siciliennes, as well as many other recordings for EMI, RCA, Fonit Cetra,
Hungaroton and Decca.
As a juror he has served on the panel of national and international singing competitions and
he runs several master classes.
