NICOLA GHIUSELEV
Nicola Ghiuselev was born in Bulgaria.
He graduated from the Sophia Academy of Creative Arts.
He studied vocal mastery under the tutelage of the wonderful Bulgarian teacher Christo Brumbarov.
During a vocal audition for the academic student choir, Nicola Ghiuselev stunned the jury with his performance of Ivan Susanin's aria and became a member of Andzhey Manolov's famous choir.
In 1960 he was awarded the Gold Medal of the Summer Music Festival in Prague.
On June 17, 1961, Nicola Ghiuselev made his debut on the stage of the Bulgarian National Opera in the role of Timur in Turandot by Puccini. In that season he played the role of Tobias Mikhi in "The Bartered Bride" by Smetana and the Varangian Merchant in Sadko by Rimsky-Korsakov.
In 1962 he won the International vocal competition in Sophia, and also received the Gold Medal at a competition in Helsinki.
Nicola Ghiuselev performed his first foreign tournament as an opera singer in January 1963, as part of a group of Bulgarian singers in Barcelona where he played the role of Pimen in Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky.
In June of 1963 at the International Festival of Young Talents in Sophia, Nicola Ghiuselev performed the role of King Phillip II from Don Carlo by Verdi for the first time. His voice enchanted the public and the audience's ovation lasted ten minutes. Also in 1963, Nicola Ghiuselev performed an incredibly successful concert on Paris radio.
Nicola Ghiuselev has entered the ranks of the most famous basses of the international opera scene. His repertoire includes: Don Juan (Don Giovanni by Mozart), Attila (Attila by Verdi), Dosifei (Khovanshchina by Mussorgsky), Prince Igor and Galitsky (Prince Igor by Borodin), Don Basilio (Il Barbiere di Siviglia by Rossini), Boris Godunov (Boris Godunov by Mussorgsky), Mephistophele (Mephistophele by Boito), Mustafa (L'Italiana in Algeri by Rossini), Ramfis (Aida by Verdi), Pagano (I Lombardi alla prima crociata by Verdi), and Orbazzano (Tancredi by Rossini).
Nicola Ghiuselev is invited to perform at the world's most famous theaters. In 1976 alone he performed in Brussels, Barcelona, London, Sophia, Genoa, Verona, Warsaw, Vienna, Moscow, Budapest, Madrid, Monaco, Milan, Berlin, Athens, Perugia, Prague, Wiesbaden, Hartford, Seattle, Geneva, Paris, Bratislava, Buenos-Aires, Naples, Lecchi, Parma, San-Diego, Bonn, New York.
Nicola Ghiuselev's repertoire includes many works of Orthodox Spirituality.
Since November 1993, Nicola Ghiuselev is the director of the Boris Christoff Academy in Rome.
In November 1994 he received the Golden Verdi Award in Parma.
