PETER DVORSKY
Peter Dvorsky studied singing in 1967-1973 at the Bratislava Conservatoire in a class
of professor Ida Cernecka. During his studies, he was in 1972 engaged as a soloist at the
Slovak National Theatre where he made his debut in the role of Lensky in Tchaikovsky's
Eugene Onegin. It was beyond all doubt that an outstanding talent entered the opera stage
which was later proved in various international singing contests and by the achieved awards.
During the season 1975/1976, Dvorsky spent a study stay at La Scala in Milan. In 1977,
he made his debut at the Wiener Staatsoper from where he started performances in
renowned opera houses. His most important day was the 13th of April, 1979 when he made
his first remarkable appearanced in the opera Bohème at La Scala. His performance was
an extraordinary success and Dvorsky has entered the club of the World Greatest Tenors.
He became the most demanded Slovak opera artist in the most prominent opera houses
all over the wrorld. He has sung with world-famous artists under the batons of renowned
conductors. Dvorsky's sunny tenor is characterized by soft and versatile cantilena tones,
tender and pleasant warm colors and natural musicality. His voice glows with high tones
and still retains its lyric charm and necessary dramatic flavor. His scenic performance of
individual roles confirms his great acting talent and ability to surrender his heart to his
audience.
In 1990, Peter Dvorsky together with his friend Dr. Peter Stilicha, a poet and translators, have founded the Slovak National Competition in Interpreting Slovak Folk Songs named Slavik Slovenska (The Slovak Nightingale). Every year, several thousand children aged 6 to 12 take part in this competition.
